Maryland Terrapins head coach Mike Locksley celebrates with the championship trophy after a win against the Auburn Tigers at Nissan Stadium Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

The “College GameDay” crew had to lick their wounds on Saturday after getting one of the day’s bowl games very wrong.

The “GameDay” panel consisting of Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee, Lee Corso, and Kirk Herbstreit offered up picks for the day’s bowl games during their usual Saturday show, including the Music City Bowl between Auburn and Maryland. All four analysts picked Auburn to win the game, believing that quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa’s decision to sit out the game would be too much for the Terps to overcome.

The Terrapins had other ideas. They jumped out to a 21-0 first-quarter lead and never trailed on their way to a 31-13 victory, with backup quarterbacks Billy Edwards Jr. and Cameron Edge rotating throughout the game to combine for 208 passing yards.

That prompted Maryland Gov. Wes Moore to hop on social media to roast the crew for their poor call.

Sometimes you have to wear them, and Maryland proved the “GameDay” crew wrong this time. They were hardly the only ones, as the pregame odds also suggested that Auburn were clear favorites. The “GameDay” fan vote also overwhelmingly favored the Tigers.

On the bright side, if Howard wants to fire back, he can point to the fact that his much-maligned preseason College Football Playoff predictions actually turned out quite good this year.
