Michigan football has offered a pair of defensive linemen in the transfer portal and on Tuesday night, Jay’viar Suggs, one of the most sought-after players available right now, included the Wolverines in his final six.

Suggs is a 6-foot-3, 282-pound defensive lineman from Clarkson, Michigan. He’s played the past two seasons for Grand Valley State and has been highly productive. Suggs was credited with 21 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, and five sacks.

Analyzing the top six of Jay’viar Suggs

Defensive and offensive linemen are always popular in the portal. There just aren’t many of those guys available who can come in and contribute. Yet, Suggs is one of those guys. Michigan football hosted him for a visit this week and cracked the top six along with Florida State, Arkansas, Kentucky, USC, and Wisconsin.

Of all the schools in the mix, Florida State feels like the biggest threat. Suggs was wowed on his visit to Tallahassee. The Noles has also had a ton of success over the past few cycles landing transfer portal talent.

Michigan football has added some quality transfers, but like with high school recruiting, they have done it mostly by finding diamonds in the rough. This would be a major recruiting win and it would solidify what might already be the best defensive line in college football.

Depth is critical though. Kenneth Grant and Mason Graham are elite. They are as good as any defensive tackle tandem in college football. But they can’t play every snap. Quality einforcements are needed and Suggs would certainly qualify if the Wolverines are able to win his commitment.
