Michigan HC Jim Harbaugh cites the Bible when discussing QB battle

It is truly impressive that Jim Harbaugh still finds things to say that surprise us.

The man behind "What's your deal?" and "I don't take vacations, I'm a jackhammer" gave us another gem of a quote on Monday when he revealed to the media how he decided to name quarterback Cade McNamara the starter for Week 1 against Colorado State and sophomore J.J. McCarthy the starter in Week 2 against Hawaii.

Instead of using his years of football expertise, the Michigan head coach allegedly turned to the Good Book.

"So many people have asked, how'd you come to that decision?" Harbaugh told reporters, via CBS Sports. "Was it based on some sort of NFL model? No, it was really biblical. Solomon, he was known for being a pretty wise person."

Harbaugh did not specify exactly where in the Bible he was referencing, although it is widely believed to reference Solomon's judgment to cut a baby in half -- which would, in a bizarre way, refer to Harbaugh splitting up the QB duties between McNamara and McCarthy to start the season. Which QB emerges as the de facto starter after that is anyone's guess, Harbaugh continued.

"It's a process," Harbaugh said. "No person knows what the future holds, but the process will be based on performance. We think that both are capable of leading our team to a championship."

Michigan opens up its season at home on Sept. 3.
