Michigan QB Cade McNamara saw only two snaps in Michigan’s 59-0 rout of an overmatched UConn squad. Unfortunately for him, he’d probably love to forget the results of them.

In a game that saw eight Michigan quarterbacks take the field, McNamara was first off the bench to relieve the starter J.J. McCarthy. In his two snaps, he was sacked once and found receiver Ronnie Bell for an 18-yard gain. On that 18 yard completion, McNamara was hit hard, and forced out of the game with a leg injury.

Coach Jim Harbaugh didn’t see the injury as season-ending, but he did mention that McNamara will be out several weeks.

The rise of sophomore quarterback McCarthy has relegated McNamara to the back-up role just three weeks into the season. Fortunately for the Wolverines, Michigan has plenty of depth and experience at the quarterback position should it be needed, This includes Alan Bowman, a senior transfer from Texas Tech, where he saw action in 19 games for the Red Raiders.

Harbaugh did not elaborate on who would be the back-up to McCarthy with McNamara gone, but he did mention that the issue would be assessed and all options would be open and considered.

Michigan opens up Big Ten play next Saturday as they take on Maryland (3-0) at Michigan Stadium. Kickoff is slated for noon and will be broadcast nationally by FOX.
