Michigan RB coach jokes about Blake Corum breaking his record

Michigan running back Blake Corum has been tremendous so far in 2023.

That much isn't a shock, but the numbers are still staggering. Through five games, he's rushed for 425 yards and nine touchdowns. Those stats include multi-touchdown games in three of the five played as well as a more than healthy 5.7 yards-per-carry average.

He's been elite, but that's been his career at Michigan so far. In fact, Corum has been so good since 2020 that he finds himself in rarified air among Michigan players.

Specifically regarding his touchdown count, Corum is now just one touchdown behind his running back coach, Mike Hart, to be tied for third on Michigan's all-time career touchdown list.

That's something Hart joked about when he met with the media covering the Wolverines.

"No more touchdowns for Blake," Hart said with a smile.

Corum could tie up Hart and even break his mark this weekend against Minnesota. The Golden Gophers have given up 127.2 yards per game on the ground this season, so there will be an opportunity for a big game from the potential Heisman Trophy contender.

At 42 touchdowns, Corum would tie quarterback Denard "Shoelace" Robinson, who was a prolific runner. Running back Anthony Thomas is Michigan's all-time leader in rushing touchdowns with 49 between 1997 and 2000.

Hart is the school's current all-time rushing leader with 5,040 career yards to his name. Corum has 2,917.
