Michigan State football has landed a dynamic weapon from Purdue as TJ Sheffield committed to the Spartans on Monday.

TJ Sheffield is the fourth Michigan State football commitment of the day.

Joining the likes of Austin Clay, Jordan Turner, and Jack Velling, Sheffield also announced he’ll be joining Johnathan Smith’s roster for the upcoming season.

Sheffield is a 5-foot-11 190 pound wide receiver who spent the past five seasons at Purdue. Officially, he was in the portal graduate transfer, as 2024 will be his sixth collegiate season. He was ranked the No. 43 wide receiver in the portal and coming out of high school he was a three-star prospect.

From 2021-23 Sheffield made a noticeable impact on the Boilermakers’ offense. In those three seasons, he tallied 114 receptions, totaling 1,186 yards and 11 touchdowns. In 2020 before he was fully integrated into the offense, he contributed on special teams with 20 kickoff returns for 381 yards. Finally, TJ has made some plays returning punts as well, primarily in 2021 and 2023.

When watching the tape, Sheffield is a twitchy receiver, who can be expected to make men miss in the open field. When the ball is in the air, Sheffield shows impressive athleticism and makes outstanding adjustments to the ball.

Off the field, TJ brings a veteran presence to Michigan State’s wide receiver room. That room, led by Courtney Hawkins, has seen multiple departures this offseason. Sheffield will help provide some stability and that could be just what Hawk is looking for.

TJ Sheffield is another exciting addition to MSU’s new-look offense in 2024. Smith and company continue to build and it continues to look like an exciting era is brewing in East Lansing.
