Michigan State football has added to its backfield just after losing Jalen Berger, landing UMass transfer Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams.

Just hours after losing Jalen Berger to the transfer portal, Michigan State football responded by landing his replacement.

Visiting this past week, Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams of UMass is headed back to the Big Ten where he began his career. In fact, he was a Rutgers back in 2019 and 2020 and showed some flashes, finishing with 320 yards and two touchdowns on 83 carries. He also caught six passes for 120 yards and another score with the Scarlet Knights.

Lynch-Adams transferred to UMass following the 2020 season under Greg Schiano and had a quiet first and second year before breaking out in 2023 for over 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns. He finished the season with 1,157 yards and 12 scores while averaging 4.9 yards per carry. Those numbers aren’t eye-popping, but when you consider he put up these numbers in one of the worst offenses in college football, it’s impressive. He averaged 4.9 yards per carry on a team that had just 1,706 rushing yards all season and finished 3-9.

Now Lynch-Adams joins a backfield with Nate Carter who is likely to be Michigan State’s next 1,000-yard rusher if all goes to plan. And if Carter can have that type of season, I could also see Lynch-Adams surpassing the 500-yard mark as his backup.

That’s not a bad one-two punch to have in the Big Ten.

Carter brings to the table some elusiveness, vision, and breakaway speed while Lynch-Adams has a big build and he should be able to pick up the tough yards. This backfield just got better on Tuesday.

And this comes on the same day that the Spartans got some bad news regarding a couple of defensive linemen, tight end Jack Nickel, and Berger. Like we’ve said, the portal giveth and the portal taketh away. It’s a story as old as time.
