Michigan takes care of business in Big Ten title game, could be CFP's No. 1

The Big 10 Championship went about as expected on Saturday night, removing the possibility of total chaos in the college playoff committee selection process on Sunday.

Michigan was a 26-0 winner in a game that followed the plot.

- The Wolverines were by far the superior team.

- Iowa's offense was a complete disaster, just as it has been all season.

- Michigan improved to 13-0 and strengthened its hold on a top-four spot in the CFP. They may have done enough to move up to No. 1 following Georgia's loss in the SEC title game.

At this point the only thing that would have kept Michigan out of the top four would have been the committee punishing them for the sign stealing scandal that resulted in a three-game suspension for head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Or a loss to Iowa.

When it comes to the former point, the committee has shown no desire to do that and has remained consistent in its desire to put in the four best teams.

Michigan is clearly one of those.

The latter concern was never in doubt.

Now that it has gone through the regular season and conference championship a perfect 13-0, combined with Georgia's loss, it seems inevitable that the Wolverines should be the No. 1 team come Sunday afternoon.

That also might not be the blessing that it seems. At least if the committee puts in Alabama or Texas over Florida State for the No. 4 spot.

Either way, Michigan has done what it needed to do and it is going to enter the Playoff with the expectation of winning it all.
