Michigan entered the 2023 season with what many perceived as the best one-two punch in the entire country in running backs Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards in its backfield.
This season didn't play out that way. While Corum was a force all year for the Wolverines, Edwards saw his rushing production drop significantly in his junior season.
However, in the College Football Playoff National Championship, both halves of the dynamic duo showed up in a major way and just led the Wolverines to their first national title since 1997 (with a major assist from the outstanding Michigan defense) and set a new championship game record in the process. Corum ran for 133 yards while Edwards added 104 on the ground, making the pair the first teammates to ever go over 100 rushing yards each in a CFP National Championship game.
Edwards got things started for Michigan, with explosive touchdown runs of 41 and 46 yards in the first quarter to put the Wolverines in front. After U-M's offense stalled in a major way in the middle two quarters, Corum served as the closer, scoring a pair of touchdowns himself in the fourth quarter and leading Michigan to a 34-13 victory to bring home college football's grandest prize.
