Michigan's Donovan Edwards reveals what Jim Harbaugh told players amid NFL rumors

Michigan Wolverines running back Donovan Edwards revealed what head coach Jim Harbaugh told players about his future ahead of the College Football Playoff semifinal game against the TCU Horned Frogs.

"He already put on social media that he’s coming back," Edwards told Alejandro Zuniga of the Michigan Insider. "I don’t know, what more do people want from him? [Harbaugh] already told us before we played TCU that he was coming back. I know he’s a man of his word. He’s been a man of his word since my recruitment. I don’t know what more people need to hear. It’s not us as a team that doesn’t think he’s coming back — it’s the outside noise that don’t think he’s coming back. We know he’s coming back."

Harbaugh has indicated on multiple occasions this month he expects to remain at Michigan and not make a return to the NFL. However, it was reported that he had a virtual interview with the Denver Broncos last Monday, and he's been linked with the Indianapolis Colts in part because he played for that franchise during the 1990s.

It's also worth noting that the NCAA is investigating Michigan's program regarding alleged violations during the COVID-19 recruiting dead period. While that probe may prevent the school from offering Harbaugh a pay raise as he's courted by NFL franchises, University of Michigan president Santa J. Ono tweeted on Thursday that he's had "very positive and constructive conversations with our athletic director and football coach."

Harbaugh then released a statement regarding Ono's message:

Currently, Harbaugh's contract runs through 2026 but makes it easy for him to leave Michigan for the NFL as soon as this winter. As the Spun's Tzvi Machlin pointed out, some believe Harbaugh may be using interest from NFL clubs as a way to cash in with Michigan via another "reworked" agreement this offseason.
