Minnesota RB Mohamed Ibrahim returning for 2022 college season
Minnesota Golden Gophers starting running back Mohamed Ibrahim earned All-Big Ten First Team and Big Ten Running Back of the Year honors in 2020 but went down with a season-ending ruptured Achilles tendon in the campaign-opening loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes on Sept. 2.
Ibrahim took to social media Tuesday to confirm he's returning to the program for the 2022 season.
Per the team's website, Ibrahim tallied 1,076 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on 201 carries during the pandemic-altered 2020 campaign and hit Ohio State for 163 yards and two scores on 30 rushes before he suffered the setback that cost him the remainder of yet another promising season.
As of Nov. 10, ESPN NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. listed Ibrahim as the seventh-best prospect at the position for the 2022 class. According to ESPN stats, the ball-carrier has averaged 5.5 yards per carry during his collegiate career.
Without Ibrahim's services, Minnesota reached an overall record of 7-4 ahead of this Saturday's regular-season finale against the Wisconsin Badgers. Earlier this month, Golden Gophers head coach P.J. Fleck signed an extension with the university through 2028.
