Missouri celebrates their walk-off 61-yard field goal against Kansas State Abigail Landwehr/Tribune / USA TODAY NETWORK

Missouri won their third game of the season when they topped Kansas State on Saturday in stunning, walk-off fashion. Mizzou radio legend Mike Kelly was the ideal voice to bring the moment alive.

Missouri and Kansas State were tied at 27 all with just three seconds left on the clock at Faurot Field in Columbia, Mo.

Tigers kicker Harrison Mevis stepped up in the game’s dying moments to connect on a game-winning 61-yard field goal that sent the Mizzou crowd into a frenzy.

Not long after the end result, Kelly’s epic radio call of the game-ending play on the Learfield broadcast went viral. Kelly, who is a Missouri sports broadcasting icon, set the scene perfectly and let the jubilation ring through the airwaves.

“Out to hold, Luke Bauer with three seconds to play in regulation, tied at 27,” said Kelly. “Good snap, good place. Kick is up. It is …. a Mizzou walk-off winner from 61! Harrison Mevis sends the Mizzou students running onto the turf as Missouri wins it on a 61-yard field goal by Harrison Mevis!”

The win came against a Kansas State side ranked No. 15 in the AP Top 25 coming into the contest.

It was Missouri’s first win against a ranked non-conference opponent as an unranked team in over three decades. The last time it happened was all the way back in September of 1990 when Mizzou upset No. 21 Arizona State – a year after Kelly’s first forays into Mizzou sports broadcasting.

Missouri stays undefeated with a 3-0 record and now has a win against a ranked opponent under their belt. They have a chance to extend their streak against Memphis next Saturday.
