NCAA ADs: We're in trouble if there's no college football season

While fall sports have yet to be postponed or canceled due to the coronavirus, NCAA athletic directors fear the worst for the 2020 college football season.

With no timetable for professional and college sports to return, there very well could be no CFB season, and that would not be great organizations moving forward.

“There better be (a season) or many programs will be out of business,” an athletic director said, according to Stadium's Brett McMurphy.

“Quite simply,” added another AD, “it would be devastating.”

Another AD was quite blunt on the situation: “If there’s no season, we will be f*****.”

College football generates millions of dollars in revenue each year, and without the money the programs bring in, athletic directors fear schools will be forced to cut programs. Even if there is a season, one director said there's a lot more that needs to be assessed than people realize.

“There is still so much to be assessed over the next several months,” the AD said. “Concerns with finances, adequate practice for teams, potential looming restrictions in regard to travel to certain states, TV scheduling, the uncertainty of what the stadiums will be — what will be the fans’ perspective of sitting so close to another?"

Whatever happens, the NCAA has time to make a decision, but universities are waiting with bated breath.
