Nebraska athletic director says 'nothing to' Oct. 10 start date for Big Ten football

Rumors of the Big Ten reversing course and planning for a fall football season amid the coronavirus pandemic may have been exaggerated.

Hours after President Donald Trump confirmed that he'd recently spoken with Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren about the league's decision to postpone football and other fall sports because of the virus outbreak, Peacock's Dan Patrick generated headlines when he said the conference was "targeting" Oct. 10 for the start of football.

Per Parker Gabriel of the Lincoln Journal Star, Nebraska athletic director Bill Moos knows nothing about that or any other plans for a fall football calendar:

Gabriel added that Moos believes it's possible, but not necessarily likely, that conference football games could get underway in late November.

Earlier in the day, Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports wrote that Big Ten sources "laughed" at the idea of the conference returning to play two months after it announced the postponements of fall competitions. Warren explained in a letter published by the Big Ten website on Aug. 19 that the decision to scrap fall seasons "will not be revisited."

As of Sept. 1, it still seems most likely that Big Ten football programs won't play before the end of the year.
