Former Nebraska football player Garrett Nelson was one of the several players who participated in Nebraska’s Pro Day on Wednesday. Nelson met with the media afterwards, and told of how he has been preparing for the NFL Draft.

Nelson was a productive player for the Nebraska football program during his time in Lincoln. He recorded 67 total tackles in four years but the Nebraska football program. The 2022 season saw him record 65 tackles and 5.5 sacks. He also established himself as an edge rusher, after playing the first three years at the linebacker position.

Bill Busch was Nebraska’s interim defensive coordinator, following the firing of Erik Chinander. Busch got the unit playing better down the stretch. Busch’s attention to detail and experience had the unit playing at a higher level than in previous weeks.

He has been busy since being let go by Nebraska football in November. He has been helping Nelson with draft prep, something Nelson appreciates. Nelson gave some insight into that, as he spoke with assembled media.

“He’s everything man, Nelson said. “He checks on me, I talk to him. He’s helped me through the process, do this or that. You know, he’s been around the game for so long, and he’s done this so many times that he has, you know, little tips or tricks that a lot of the other guys know. He loves me so much, and helps me out with that, and I can’t thank him enough. So, you know as he says, he’s a left-side-of-the-menu guy.”

It will be intriguing to see where Nelson ends up in the NFL, and which team he either gets drafted by or signs with. It’s also reassuring for Nebraska football fans that Bill Busch is still helping where he can. It goes to show the bond that those two had, and how important Busch was to many of his players.
