Remember when some Nebraska football fans wished Deion Sanders was the Huskers’ head coach instead of Matt Rhule?
There weren’t many. But a few were whispering that Deion might have been a better choice, especially after Colorado whipped Nebraska football last season in Boulder. It looked like the Buffs were back, while the Huskers still felt like they had a long way to go.
As it happened, both teams fell short of bowl games. Nebraska football actually won more games last season, but right now, looking at the two programs, it’s not even a debate about which has a better future — it’s Nebraska and it’s not close.
Colorado looks like a dumpster fire. Shedeur Sanders is an NFL quarterback. Travis Hunter might be the best individual player in the sport, but after that, the Buffs don’t have much talent.
Former five-star cornerback Comani McClain entered the transfer portal on Tuesday and in response, Deion’s sons are recruiting transfer portal targets on Instagram. They are also telling potential players that Colorado isn’t “Last Chance U.”
If you have to say that, then maybe it is Last Chance U. Regardless, it’s a terrible look for a coach who said he’s too busy and too famous to do any in-person recruiting. The two teams will meet in September and I’m praying the Nebraska Cornhuskers get their payback.
USA Today also reported that while Matt Rhule made 123 recruiting visits last December and January, Sanders hasn’t made one off-campus recruiting trip in his tenure. That’s incredible. Rhule has made 486 off-campus visits as Nebraska football head coach.
Creighton breaks the heart of Nebraska baseball
The Nebraska Cornhuskers started the season on fire, but the baseball team has now dropped five of their last six games, including a 6-4 loss to Creighton on Tuesday night.
For the fourth time in the past six games, the Cornhuskers weren’t able to hold a lead. Creighton blasted a grand slam to take a 3-2 Huskers lead and turn it into a Bluejays advantage in what ended up as a 6-4 win.
Nebraska baseball is now 23-11 on the season. They are 6-3 in the Big Ten and trail Illinois by one game. Nebraska used six different pitchers in the mid-week game but Kyle Perry gave up the homer and got the loss.
Creighton hit three home runs. Nebraska had one from Josh Caron. He finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and was the only Nebraska baseball player with multiple hits.
The Huskers will host Maryland for a three-game set starting on Friday.
