Nebraska Cornhuskers head coach Matt Rhule Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

New Nebraska HC Matt Rhule did a lot with little time on the 2023 recruiting trail

National Signing Day 2023 has quickly come and gone, but there's never any downtime on the recruiting trail. For new Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule, that means he and his staff will quickly have to turn their attention to 2024 and beyond if they have any hope of turning around the Cornhuskers and bringing them back into national contention.

Rhule can at least take a moment to appreciate what he was able to accomplish in just a few short months since taking over at Nebraska, though. According to 247Sports, the Cornhuskers leave the 2023 cycle with the No. 24-ranked class in the nation.

No, they're nowhere near close to Alabama — which brought in nine 5-star recruits — or fellow Big Ten program Ohio State (the Buckeyes boasted the No. 4-ranked class and landed 2023's consensus top recruit, 5-star quarterback Dylan Raiola), but the Huskers have to be feeling great about their haul. It's especially impressive considering the fact that Rhule has only been in Lincoln since Nov. 25.

That's only 68 days on the recruiting trail.

"What we've seen from Matt Rhule ever since he arrived there is everything we expected," 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins said "If you're a Nebraska fan, this has to be encouraging. Just believe in the process."

Nebraska's 2023 class is highlighted by 4-star wideout Malachi Coleman, who played football in the Huskers' backyard at Lincoln East High School. Coleman is the No. 11-ranked wideout nationally and the top in-state recruit for Nebraska.

The Huskers landed four 4-star recruits, including Coleman. He's joined by edge rushers Princewill Umanmielen and Cameron Lenhardt, and defensive lineman Riley Van Poppel.
