Nick Saban is busy preparing for a huge SEC Championship matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs. Georgia has gotten the best of them as of late but they are looking to change the narrative. It has massive College Football Playoff implications with Alabama sitting all the way down at number eight. They need a win but that doesn’t guarantee them a spot. Saban said it would be very disrespectful if the SEC didn’t get a playoff spot.

Nick Saban On The SEC In The College Football Playoff

Everyone is preparing for chaos. If Georgia wins, there is no drama. Alabama is out and Georgia is in most likely as the top seed. If Alabama wins, it gets complicated. Their lone loss is to Texas at home and the committee has had the Crimson Tide behind Texas all year. Would this win make them leapfrog Texas especially if Texas wins the Big 12? Saban thinks so.

“I think the SEC is one of the best conferences in the country. I think Georgia is one of the best teams in the country. I think they’re one of the best four teams in the country. I think if we beat them, we’d be one of the best four teams in the country.”

He said it would be a “disrespect to the SEC if there isn’t an SEC representation in the [CFP].” It would be huge news if the SEC wasn’t represented but would be disrespectful?

SEC Hasn’t Been As Strong This Year

The SEC hasn’t dominated like they have in previous years. They only have five teams in the top 25 of the playoff rankings. While they are all in the top 15, it isn’t like previous years when the SEC has many powerhouses. They are on the same level as the other conferences. With that said, I think that if Alabama beats Georgia they deserve to be in. Their resume would be excellent even with the loss to Texas. Still, I would understand the argument to put Texas in ahead of them.

Nick Saban is doing what he should be doing. He is advocating for his team. Before we can worry about the College Football Playoff arguments, they first have to beat Georgia.
