North Carolina QB Drake Maye training with eight-time Pro Bowler before draft

Drake Maye recently sought advice from two-time Super Bowl champion Eli Manning. Now, he's working with another quarterback, who thrived for 17 seasons.

On a Wednesday episode of "The Adam Schefter Podcast," the North Carolina standout revealed he recently trained with former Los Angeles Chargers and Indianapolis Colts QB Philip Rivers

"He's one of the best. He reminds me just of my brothers, loves to compete," Maye said. "He's out there, we're throwing six step outs, a 10-yard drill throwing into the net. He retired two or three years ago, but he still won the competition. So he's just a competitor. Not only that, he's just one of the guys. Gets along with people so well and knows the game."

Maye shared he wanted to "pick [Rivers'] brain" to prosper in the league. The 42-year-old made eight Pro Bowls and won 2013 Comeback Player of the Year. He's also sixth all-time in passing yards (63,440) and passing TDs (421).

ESPN's Matt Miller rated Maye as the third-best QB in the draft class behind LSU's Jayden Daniels and Southern Cal's Caleb Williams, comparing the 6-foot-4, 230-pounder to Chargers QB Justin Herbert.

"Maye's powerful right arm allows him to hit every area of the field, and high-level traits are obvious on tape," wrote Miller. "Maye is also excellent under pressure and has proved he can carry a roster lacking in elite talent at core positions. He threw for 3,608 yards, 24 TDs and nine interceptions last season."

Don't be surprised if he's one of the first three picks in the draft in April. According to Tankathon, the Washington Commanders will select the 21-year-old with the second overall pick.

Working with former QBs doesn't guarantee success at the next level, but it can certainly help. Plus, it's a good sign Maye wants to continue to improve and refine his game.
