Before he was known as Christian McCaffrey’s dad, Ed McCaffrey was an NFL star in his own right. Now he’s set to become the next head coach at Northern Colorado, according to Zach Barnett of FootballScoop.

Nicky Jhabvala if The Athletic confirmed Barnett’s report not long afterward.

McCaffrey has been involved with coaching at the youth level since the turn of the century.

He most recently coached at Valor Christian School in Highlands Ranch, Colo., where his youngest son, Luke McCaffrey, graduated from this past year. The Eagles made it to the second round of the CHSAA playoffs after going 10-2 during the regular season.

As noted by Barnett, the two years McCaffrey spent at Valor Christian represent his only coaching experience outside of the youth level.
