Northwestern football pauses workouts after positive coronavirus test

The Northwestern Wildcats football program paused workouts on Monday after an unidentified player tested positive for the coronavirus.

In a prepared statement shared by ESPN's Adam Rittenberg, Northwestern said:

"Medical staff will implement the university's rigorous contact tracing and quarantine protocols to protect the health and safety of student-athletes, coaches and staff."

The player who tested positive is self-isolating, and Northwestern won't resume workouts until Wednesday at the earliest. The program's last workout was Friday.

Rutgers, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Indiana are other Big Ten football programs that have had to pause workouts amid the pandemic due to positive tests. AL.com’s John Talty reported that the conference-only Big Ten schedule is expected to be released on Tuesday.
