NOTRE DAME FIT
Center is a position that is relatively thin on numbers in future years, and while I haven't seen film of Patrick playing that position he brings a lot of skills that could fit that position extremely well.A high school tackle that could also plays guard and center also shows the versatility that Patrick brings to the game, which adds even greater value to the class and line.
FILM ANALYSIS
Patrick is listed anywhere from 6-4 to 6-5 and anywhere from 270 to 280 pounds. He is lean right now but I like his frame, and I fully expect him to easily get to 300+ pounds at some point during his college career, and it will happen quickly. Because Patrick is lean the weight gains that will come will likely be very good weight. Patrick is a physical player, but those weight gains will also give him a boost in weight room strength as well.
Patrick has the kind of demeanor you want in a dominant run blocker. He comes off the line aggressively, plays with good pad level in the run game, he does a very good job driving his feet through contact he's a strong finisher. He shows good foot quickness working double teams and getting to the second level in the run game. Patrick is obviously well schooled in the run game.
Patrick shows impressive lower body strength, and as his upper body gets stronger he'll be an even more dominant run defender. Patrick plays with some nastiness, and that edge should fit very well into Notre Dame's zone and Duo run schemes. His combination of foot quickness, short area power and physicality are traits that factor into why I project him inside, especially as a potential center.
Right now Patrick's technique is better in the run game than the pass game. In pass pro he isn't quite as active with his feet and he doesn't look at comfortable in space as he does working vertically and in the tight quarters that come with the run game. This is certainly an area where he can improve, and he shows the agility and overall athleticism to improve in the pass game, especially as he gets more experience in protection.
