Notre Dame, Florida announce home-and-home series for 2031-32

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Florida Gators football programs are planning for a potential new rivalry a decade from now.

Both Notre Dame and Florida confirmed on Tuesday that the schools will meet for a home-and-home series that will take place in 2031 and 2032. The Irish will host the Gators on Nov. 15, 2031, and Florida will serve as the home team for a matchup scheduled for Sept. 11, 2032.

Somewhat surprisingly, considering their standings in the college football community, these massive programs have only met once. Notre Dame rallied from behind to defeat Florida 39-28 and win the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1, 1992.

Arkansas, Auburn, Kentucky and Mississippi State remain the only SEC teams Notre Dame has never played in football. Florida, meanwhile, also has Texas and Arizona State listed as non-conference opponents for 2031. In 2032, the Gators will play Notre Dame and NC State.

During the pandemic-altered 2020 season, Notre Dame won 10 straight contests but then lost to the Clemson Tigers in the ACC championship game and the Alabama Crimson Tide in the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Rose Bowl.

Florida ended the year at 8-4 overall after a blowout loss to the Oklahoma Sooners in the Cotton Bowl.
