Notre Dame is losing their top pass rusher in school history as he enters the 2023 NFL Draft
Isaiah Foskey, a 6-foot-5, 265-pound senior defensive end from Notre Dame, has decided to enter the 2023 NFL Draft.
As such, Foskey will be foregoing the fifth year of eligibility he was afforded because of the 2020 COVID-19-affected season. The star pass rusher also announced that he'll be foregoing the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl, which will feature a matchup between his No. 21 ranked Fighting Irish and the No. 19 South Carolina Gamecocks fresh off wins over No. 5 Tennessee and No. 8 Clemson, respectively.
"Thank you to the entire athletic and coaching staff here at Notre Dame, as well as every instructor, mentor and peer," Foskey wrote in a statement (h/t ESPN). "For my brothers that I take the field with each Saturday, the work we put in day in and day out will always be cherished."
Though head coach Marcus Freeman had to have been expecting that Foskey would capitalize on his 11-sack season, there still is no way that Notre Dame will be able to quickly replace a player of this magnitude.
Foskey holds the school sack record with 26.5 career sacks. He passed up Notre Dame legend Justin Tuck in late November much in thanks to 11 sacks seasons his past two in a row.
The Antioch, California product also notched 122 tackles, 31.5 tackles for loss, and seven forced fumbles in his terrific Notre Dame career.
Per Pro Football Focus, Foskey is ranked as the No. 27 overall prospect heading into the 2023 NFL Draft.
