Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman recently announced that wide receivers coach Chansi Stuckey would no longer be the wide receivers coach. Apparently, that didn’t sit well with the players. Former four-star recruit in the 2023 class Braylon James is the latest wide receiver to enter the transfer portal.

Notre Dame WR Braylon James Enters Transfer Portal

James is the third Fighting Irish wide receiver to enter the transfer portal this week. The talented wideout from the state of Texas had 42 offers before choosing to come to South Bend. He only appeared in four games and had one catch for 12 yards. James posted a message on X saying goodbye.

“Thank you for taking me in and embracing me since day 1. This past year in South Bend I’ve learned so much about what it means to be a man of integrity, character, and nobility. To Coach Freeman, Stuckey, and the rest of the Notre Dame staff thank you for nourishing me and treating me with the utmost respect everyday.”

“After long thought and prayer, I have decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal to find a new home. Once again, Irish Nation thank you for letting me be a part of this amazing culture. Notre Dame will always hold a special place in my heart, yet I look forward to my next opportunity!”

The Fighting Irish Wide Receiver Problem

The exodus of wide receivers means that Freeman’s team will likely have the same issues they had this season. They simply do not have the playmakers at wide receiver to hang with the bigger programs. They seem to be in line to grab Duke transfer Riley Leonard but without good receivers to throw to, the move is useless. Freeman can definitely do some work in the transfer portal himself but this type of mass leaving is not what he wanted to see.

Notre Dame will need to find talent somewhere. They always seem a step behind the rest and the loss of the third receiver this week doesn’t help them catch up.
