On a day in which John Ross handed over his 40-yard dash record, the University of Washington football team otherwise had a productive day at the NFL Scouting Combine, with Rome Odunze only helping his cause in Indianapolis.

On Saturday, the Husky wide receiver showed plenty of speed with an official 4.45 40 and a lot of agility with a 39-inch vertical leap.

The big news, however, involved Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy, a UW Sugar and Alamo bowl opponent the past two seasons, who drew the spotlight with a 4.21 40-yard dash, eclipsing Ross' 4.22 combine time that stood for seven years for the former Husky receiver.

Initially, Worthy appeared to only tie the record in Indy before a review lowered his time one more tick, made it official and determined he was the fastest combine sprinter yet.

Odunze and fellow Husky receivers Jalen McMillan and Ja'Lynn Polk each ran the gauntlet fairly efficiently, catching pass after pass while sprinting the width of the field, and had no falloff.

McMillan wasn't far behind Odunze in the 40, with a 4.47 clocking, while Polk was a step behind his former teammates at 4.52, and likely will be second- or third-day picks.

Husky offensive tackle Troy Fautanu, a potential first-rounder, took the podium and had people sit up and listen to his innermost thoughts, namely how he views himself — as the most versatile lineman in the draft — and how he aggressively approaches the game, which has endeared him to the scouts.

"There's only one way to play and that's nasty — violent," he said in typical Fautanu fashion. "You have to enjoy imposing your will on someone."
