Every year at this time, football players flock to the transfer portal. Ohio State football players have done the same over the past few years as well. It’s usually not a large number of guys, but the Buckeyes typically lose a handful of guys in the portal in the Spring once the Spring Game has been played. Guys find out where they are in the pecking order.
So far this Spring, that hasn’t been the case for the Buckeyes. They have lost just two guys in the portal. Dallan Hayden informed the Ohio State coaches before the game even happened that he was going to enter the portal. While not a huge blow, that’s a significant loss for their depth. Hayden is a good player. They also lost freshman cornerback Cedrick Hawkins. That’s it so far.

Other than those two guys, the Buckeyes haven’t had a whole lot of action in the portal. No one has given an indication that they want to leave. It was expected that at least one of the five quarterbacks in the room would leave, but none have yet. In fact, both Devin Brown and Lincoln Kienholz have each given a statement on social media saying the opposite.
The Ohio State football team doesn’t seem active in recruiting other players in the transfer portal either. That could be indicative of the fact that they won’t have roster spots because guys won’t leave. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, although they could still use help on the offensive line. Maybe Ryan Day doesn’t think that though. Maybe he likes what he has.
Even I expected more Buckeyes to head for the portal following the Spring Game. I thought the Buckeyes would lose at least five or six guys. That might not be the case.
