Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day has had a great couple of weeks on the recruiting trail. He has landed many top-tier recruits. His most hated rival, the Michigan Wolverines, lost their coach, Jim Harbaugh , to the NFL and have had many players enter the draft. The Buckeyes are ready to be back on top of the Big Ten. One college football analyst, ESPN’s Paul Finebaum, loves the success but issued a stern warning to Day.

Ohio State Coach Ryan Day Issued Warning By Paul Finebaum

Finebaum has been vocal about his support for what Day has been able to accomplish in the last couple of weeks. However, he also thinks this puts immense pressure on Day to win in 2024. On ESPN’s Get Up, analyst Dan Orlovsky asked Finebaum if Day is “the new guy” for him to scrutinize. “100 percent,” Finebaum said. “If Ryan Day doesn’t beat Michigan, I’ll finish that statement later.” In a separate interview, Finebaum had this to say.

“I’m well aware of what he has done, but his popularity — he looks like a busted stock on Wall Street. Should he lose to the new coach at Michigan, whoever that is, this guy’s got problems.”

Pressure In 2024

There isn’t an excuse anymore. Harbaugh is gone. Talent is pouring into the program. The Buckeyes have to win. Even though Day has a 56-8 record during his time in Columbus, many of those wins have come against the bottom feeders of the Big Ten. Day is 2-4 in bowl games and, more importantly, 0-3 in the past three years against Michigan. If Day fails to be the elite program, he could find himself on the chopping block.

Can Ohio State reclaim the Big Ten crown? If they can’t, some big changes may come to the program.
