Ohio State lands 5-star DT Justin Scott over Georgia, Michigan, Miami and Notre Dame

Ohio State is no stranger to big-time recruiting wins. With that said, 5-star defensive tackle Justin Scott choosing to commit to Ryan Day and the Buckeyes is no small deal.

From the perspective of the rankings, Scott is an elite recruit. According to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, Scott -- from St. Ignatius in Chicago, Illinois, is the No. 3 defensive lineman in the 2024 class. He's also a Top 15 recruit nationally, checking in at No. 14 overall.

The rankings suggest this is a massive recruiting win for the Buckeyes, but so does the competition. Scott had already used several of his official visits for this recruiting cycle, having checked out Miami, Michigan and Georgia in June. He was also scheduled to take an official visit to Notre Dame, but his late June official visit to Columbus must have sealed the deal.

It was his second time on Ohio State's campus, the first being a 49-10 Ohio State win over Rutgers in October of 2022.

"Definitely the atmosphere [stood out]," Scott had told ESPN about that first visit to OSU. "Their stadium was probably one of the biggest ones I've seen out of all my visits. Even though they played Rutgers, which was kind of a predicted blowout, the stands were still filled. Everybody just showed love."

Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson Sr. also seemingly played a huge role in getting the 6-foot-4, 310-pound defensive lineman to commit to the Buckeyes.

"Coach Johnson being one of the best defensive line coaches to ever coach in college football," Scott said. "Just being able to be developed like Chase Young and the Bosas [Joey and Nick]. The culture that they have there, especially with the Black Stripe [tradition]."

With the addition of Scott, the Buckeyes now have the second-ranked 2024 recruiting class in all of college football, only behind Georgia.
