Ohio State QB Kyle McCord would cast his hypothetical Heisman vote for Marvin Harrison Jr.

Ohio State junior quarterback Kyle McCord doesn't have a Heisman vote. If he did, though, he would undoubtedly be voting for wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. – his favorite target.

Through seven games, Harrison has caught 42 passes for 766 yards and six touchdowns. He's averaging 18.2 yards per catch and 109.4 yards per contest.

“Yeah, I mean, if it’s truly the award that goes to the best player in college football, I don’t see how he’s not in the mix,” McCord said in a recent news conference (h/t On3). “I mean, obviously, what he’s done, especially these last few games, I think, you know, I don’t know if we’ve seen kind of a stretch like that just how consistent he is, how reliable he is. So, obviously, you guys say just like I do, he’s done a great job and obviously he’s a lot of fun to play with.”

To McCord's points, Harrison Jr. has been special over the past three weeks. He notched eight catches for 163 yards and a touchdown against Maryland, six catches for 105 yards and a touchdown against Purdue and 11 catches for 162 yards and a touchdown in a win against No. 7 Penn State.

Harrison has topped 100 yards in five of seven games and is a major reason why OSU is 7-0 and ranked No. 3 in the country.

To McCord, Harrison is automatic.

“Yeah, I think regardless of the coverage, you know, in the back of my mind, I know there’s a good chance Marvin is gonna get open,” McCord said. “And so anytime they give me an opportunity to get him the ball, and that’s what they’re representing, that’s what I tried to do.

“He gets the attention that he deserves and rightfully so. And I think that opens up other guys but at the same time, you know, you can’t double them all game, you can’t give them extra coverage all game and there’s going to be some one-on-one situations. And, you know, I’ve said this and I’ll say it again, there’s not a matchup in the country for Marvin in one-on-one (coverage) that I don’t like.”

Yes, Harrison Jr'.s own quarterback may be a bit biased, but it's hard to argue the impact the star receiver has had for one of the best teams in the nation to this point. He's certainly Heisman-worthy.
