Ohio State's next great WR could be 2024 5-star Jeremiah Smith

Ohio State has long had an elite college football program and the Buckeyes have sent plenty of stars into the NFL. That's nothing new.

What OSU has been doing at wide receiver lately has been nothing short of phenomenal, though, and the Buckeyes just received a commitment from a player who could end up being next in that pipeline.

Jeremiah Smith, a 5-star wide receiver from Opa Locka, Florida, has committed to Ohio State.

To say that Smith is a huge commitment to the Buckeyes would be understating his potential. He's a 6-foot-3, 185-pound receiver and he's not even a senior in high school yet.

The 247Sports Composite rankings consider him the No. 2 overall prospect in America, behind only quarterback Dylan Raiola (perhaps not ironically, also an Ohio State commitment) and Smith is the consensus top wide receiver in his class.

Smith is the type of recruit who doesn't come around often but when they do they end up at places like Alabama, Georgia, LSU, USC, Michigan, Clemson, and yes, Ohio State.

Smith projects to be soo good at the college level, in fact, that scouts already believe he can have the type of impact at OSU that players like Marvin Harrison Jr. (1,157 yards, 12 touchdowns) and Emeka Egbuka (1,039 yards, nine touchdowns) are having.

It goes even deeper than that, though. Andrew Ivins at 247Sports has sources that are telling him that Smith has the talent to be the "best yet" amongst recently notable Ohio State wide receivers.

That's a list that includes Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave, who went to the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints with the No. 10 and No. 11 overall picks in this past NFL Draft respectively.

Keep in mind, Smith still has to play his senior year in high school, so there's still a lot that has to happen between now and then.

The pressure is on, but it sounds like he's the type of recruit who can handle those big expectations at a place like OSU.
