Oklahoma State will be seeing plenty of action on Friday next season.

OSU’s game against Brigham Young will take place on Friday, Oct. 18. The game was initially scheduled for that Saturday, but the Big 12 confirmed the date change on Tuesday.

The Cowboys’ matchup against BYU is set to be their first Friday game next season. The Cowboys will play their regular season finale at Colorado on Black Friday.

With two non-Saturday games on the schedule for 2024, OSU will continue its recent history of playing on weeknights. In five of the past seven seasons, OSU has played a regular season game on Thursday or Friday.

This season will be the first since 2017 that the Cowboys have played multiple non-Saturday games. Although the Cowboys are no strangers to playing on Fridays, this season will be somewhat different.
With this season’s Friday matchups coming against BYU and Colorado, the Cowboys will have multiple weeknight games against conference opponents. Of their matchups since 2017, the Cowboys have only had one such game coming into the season.

That lone matchup came against Kansas State last season. With a Friday blackout matchup against KSU, OSU took an early lead and held on for its first Big 12 win.

That game sparked the Cowboys' five-game winning streak and kicked off the breakout season of Doak Walker Award winner Ollie Gordon II. OSU’s Friday matchups in 2024 are unlikely to have the same effect, with both games away from Stillwater.

But behind Gordon, Mike Gundy’s team will have hopes of competing for another Big 12 Championship appearance and the team’s first conference title since 2011.

Against BYU and Colorado, some of OSU’s toughest tests next season will be somewhat tougher with a potential Friday boost. Still, OSU has the talent to take care of business in hostile environments.
