Ole Miss HC Lane Kiffin signs mustard bottle at SEC Media Days
Lane Kiffin has been the butt of plenty of jokes during his storied football coaching career and last season's mustard bottle gaffe doesn't appear to be going away anytime soon.
The Ole Miss Rebels' coach talked about important topics when he addressed the media on Monday, including the impact of NIL on college football recruiting. However, what really grabbed everyone's attention was when he signed a mustard bottle from a rival team's fan.
Kiffin has had a truly bizarre connection to the condiment since Tennessee fans threw items toward the Ole Miss sideline during a game last season. In the midst of the flying projectile, Kiffin was dinged in the head with a golf ball. The incident caught enough attention for the action to become something of a ritual, with mustard and golf balls being thrown at various Ole Miss-Tennessee sporting events since.
Instead of shying away from the incident, Kiffin has seemingly chosen to embrace it.
"I've signed a lot of mustard and golf balls this offseason," Kiffin said on Monday. "It's been a unique offseason."
In his second season as coach, Kiffin led the Rebels to a 10-3 record, their first winning season since 2015. Ole Miss lost the Sugar Bowl to the Baylor Bears, 21-7.
