Oregon State coach Jonathan Smith has agreed to a contract extension through the 2028 season, the school announced Sunday.

Smith will receive $30.6 million in total compensation over the next six seasons, according to the school. His 2023 guaranteed compensation is $4.85 million, and it will increase by $100,000 each year.

"Coach Smith has taken the Oregon State football program to new heights, and we knew it was important to reward him and his staff to keep the momentum moving forward," Oregon State athletic director Scott Barnes said in a news release. "The success they've achieved on the football field has been evident, and Coach's Smith leadership and the work of his staff also has changed the culture of the program in the classroom, the weight room and the community."

Smith, 43, guided Oregon State to a 9-3 regular-season record in 2022, including a 6-3 mark in Pac-12 play. A victory against Florida in the Las Vegas Bowl on Saturday would mark just the third time that the Beavers won 10 or more games in a season.

Smith was Oregon State's starting quarterback when the program recorded a school-best 11-1 record in 2000. The Beavers finished the season with a 41-9 steamrolling of Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl and finished fourth in the final AP ranking.

"I want to thank Scott Barnes and the Oregon State administration for continuing to support this football program and everyone who works tirelessly for our student-athletes and all of Beaver Nation," Smith said in a statement Sunday. "We are proud of what has been accomplished, but the work is not done and we'll continue to put in the effort and do it the right way."

Smith is 25-31 in five seasons with the Beavers.

Smith played at Oregon State from 1998-2001 and ranks third on the school's all-time list in career passing yards (9,680 yards) and touchdown passes (55).
