The Penn State football team is working towards building the 2025 recruiting class. The latest commit was running back Alvin Henderson who made his pledge on April 11th. Now, the Nittany Lions are starting to focus on stacking defensive prospects. On Thursday, Penn State offered Eric Winters a scholarship who is a top 100 prospect in the 2025 cycle.

Penn State football zeros in on top 100 2025 prospect

Eric Winters is from Enterprise, Alabama where he attends Enterprise High School. A four-star safety prospect according to the On3 Industry Ranking. Winters currently is listed as the No. 6 player in AL, the No. 9 safety in the 2025 recruiting class, and the 79th overall player in the country.

Winters holds offers from several FBS schools. According to On3, the Auburn Tigers lead the battle with a 92% chance to secure a commitment from the talented defensive back. Georgia and Miami are also serious contenders. However, that could change after a scholarship was offered by Penn State on Thursday afternoon. The Nittany Lions could use more defensive backs in the 2025 recruiting class, with Xxavier Thomas, the lone DB committed to Penn State at the moment.

Can Penn State pull another prospect from Alabama?

The Penn State football team has recently gone through this battle. Four-star 2025 RB Alvin Henderson, an Alabama native himself was predicted to land at Auburn before he visited Happy Valley. That visit shifted momentum back towards the Nittany Lions and soon after he made his commitment to James Franklin.

Now, Penn State finds a similar situation with Eric Winters. If they have the opportunity to host him for an upcoming visit that could be the difference maker in his recruitment. Currently, the Nittany Lions hold the No. 16 recruiting class in 2025 according to On3. But with several official visits scheduled for this summer, Penn State could shoot up the rankings.
