One of the biggest stars on the Penn State football team Nick Singleton is widely viewed as one of the best running backs in the country. Singleton set a freshman record in 2022 with 12 rushing touchdowns and lived up to the hype. Whenever he touched the ball there was big-play potential. But ahead of the 2023 season, Singleton wants to improve this area of his game to make him a complete back this fall.
Penn State RB Nick Singleton wants to be a ‘complete back’ this fall
Recently Penn State football running back Nick Singleton joined Adam Breneman on his show Next Up with Adam Breneman to reflect on fall camp, speak about his relationship with teammate Kaytron Allen, and which area of his game he wants to improve. One of the aspects that makes great players is their desire and hunger to keep getting better.
When speaking about becoming a complete back Singleton said “Probably my route running, you know, being out of the backfield, being a complete back for myself. You know I always preach about that and try to get better with that. It was just catching with my hands, route running. I’ve been with the receivers the whole time this summer learning how they run routes and stuff, and tight ends too.”
It’s interesting to hear that is the part where Singleton wants to improve the most. It felt like the majority of the beginning of last season for him was adapting to the college game, now he wants to showcase that not only does he have blazing speed and he can make people miss, he always wants to be part of the screen game or beating a linebacker with his route running. Nick Singleton has the desire to continue to perfect his craft.
Reflecting on the 2022 season
Breneman went on to speak to Singleton about the moment when he knew that he could be one of the best running backs in the country last season.
Singleton said “I’d probably say Auburn, everybody knows that, it wasn’t the first touchdown, I kinda felt it too the first one. But the second one announced it really. That put my name on the map type stuff.”
It’s safe to say those long touchdown runs against the Auburn Tigers showed the Penn State superstar that he not only could play on this level but that he was breaking out on the national stage. If Singleton can at minimum repeat what he did in 2022, it’s going to be a special season.
