As the days move forward more Penn State football players have a chance to open up about Mike Yurcich. It’s interesting to listen to the thoughts of team captains on the firing of Yurcich, especially tight end Theo Johnson. He has been vocal this season and stepped up in a leadership role for the Nittany Lions. One of the roles of leadership is reacting or uniting the team in times of adversity. At this current point of the season, Penn State needs a leader to bring the team together and hopefully, Johnson can serve that role. But how has Johnson handled the firing of Mike Yurcich?

Penn State TE Theo Johnson reacts to the firing of Mike Yurcich

Theo Johnson has been a bright spot for the Nittany Lions this season. After Brenton Strange left for the NFL, the Penn State tight end room needed leadership. Johnson opened up about that this summer and how he wanted to be a vocal leader on this team. During his media availability on Tuesday, he opened up about the newest trending topic around the team, the firing of offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich.

Johnson said, “I think so far, I’m pretty pleased with where everyone’s at. I think that at practice today it will really show where we are. But we’ve overcome a lot of adversity this year. This offense has overcome a lot of adversity so I’m confident that moving forward we’re not going to waver were not going to flinch we’re just going to keep fighting for it.”

The adversity that the Penn State football offense has faced was both against Ohio State and Michigan where they had lackluster performances as a unit. It will be good to see how they respond this Saturday against Rutgers.
