Pistol offense creator Chris Ault will join the College Football Playoff committee

Chris Ault is a college football legend. As such, it's fitting that he's one of three new members on the College Football Playoff committee.

The College Football Playoff (CFP) Management Committee announced that it has added three new members to replace Tom Burman, Rick George and John Urschel — whose terms on the committee have ended. Ault is arguably the headliner of the group, but he'll be joined by University of Washington athletic director Jennifer Cohen and Miami University (OH) athletic director David Sayler

Their three-year term on the CFP committee will begin this spring.

Ault was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2002 because of his three stints as head coach at Nevada from 1976-92, 1994-95 and 2004-2012.

He boasted a 234–108–1 record at Nevada and was one of the key figures in guiding the program from Division II to Division I-A. Ault won the Big Sky championship five times, the Big West three times and the WAC twice. He was also the athletic director for the school from 1986 to 2004.

Ault is one of the originators of the "Pistol Offense," which is a hybrid between "shotgun" and "single-back" which has the quarterback taking snaps from four yards behind center rather than the traditional seven yards behind in shotgun. This is an offense that often features two running backs and read options with the quarterback.
