QB Trevor Lawrence should be ready for training camp after shoulder surgery

Superstar quarterback Trevor Lawrence, a one-time national champion and runner-up for the Heisman Trophy this past college season, has encountered his first speedbump on the route toward becoming the first selection of the 2021 NFL Draft.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Friday that Lawrence will soon undergo a left labrum shoulder repair. The right-hander will still throw for NFL teams on Feb. 12 before the procedure and isn't expected to miss the start of training camp.

Lawrence won't participate in the pro day hosted by the Clemson Tigers next month.

Lawrence confirmed in early January that he was leaving Clemson to turn pro and, in the process, earn millions of dollars in guaranteed money awarded to any signal-caller drafted first overall. NFL Media's Lance Zierlein, Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN, Walter Football, a trio of CBS Sports analysts, and practically every other knowledgeable person on the planet all predict the Jacksonville Jaguars will take Lawrence with pick No. 1.

"Lawrence is one of the best quarterback prospects I've studied over the past decade, and he has all the makings of a superstar, from arm talent to size to the ability to process at the position," Kiper wrote for a piece published on Jan. 31.
