RB Miyan Williams ties Ohio State record with five touchdowns in 49-10 rout over Rutgers

Ohio State running back Miyan Williams had a game to remember Saturday against Rutgers.

The junior tied an Ohio State record with five touchdowns, helping the Buckeyes improve to 5-0 in a 49-10 rout over the Scarlet Knights.

While four of Williams' five scores came from two yards out or less, he contributed several long runs to set up short and goal-to-go situations.

Williams' standout run of the day came in the third quarter. Immediately after Rutgers had cut the Ohio State lead to 28-10, Williams broke off a 70-yard touchdown on the first play of the Buckeyes' ensuing possession.

Along with his five scores, Williams finished the day with 189 rushing yards off 21 attempts.

Williams became the first Buckeye running back to score at least four touchdowns in a game since current Baltimore Raven J.K. Dobbins in 2019. He now shares the record for rushing touchdowns in a game with Keith Byars (1984) and Pete Johnson (1974).

After a sluggish start to the season, Williams seems to be coming around. Williams rushed for just 207 yards and a touchdown over the first three weeks of the season. Over the last two games against Rutgers and Wisconsin, Williams has 290 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging over 9.0 yards per carry.
