It has been well documented that Jaxson Dart is one of the best signal callers returning to the gridiron in 2024, but how does the Ole Miss Rebels' entire quarterback room stack up to the rest of the nation ahead of the 2024 season?
247Sports released rankings for the Top 5 quarterback rooms in college football entering 2024 on Monday, and the trio of Dart, Walker Howard, and Austin Simmons landed at No. 4.
"Fueled by one of the SEC's top returning starters after a banner season from Dart, Lane Kiffin can sleep well knowing there's a coveted rising star behind him in LSU transfer Howard along with Simmons, a multi-sport freshman from Florida," 247Sports writes. "Dart threw for 3,364 yards and 23 touchdowns and cut down on his giveaways through the air. He saved his best performance for last in Saturday's Peach Bowl win over Penn State after finishing with 379 yards passing and three scores. His return in 2024, along with substantial personnel retention and transfer portal adds, makes Ole Miss a legitimate playoff contender in the SEC."
Dart was recently named a Top 10 quarterback in 2024, and is the motor that will keep the Rebels running as they strive for their first-ever playoff appearance. The 6-2, 220-pound quarterback threw for 3,364 yards and 24 touchdowns, and demonstrated his toughness by contributing 391 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground. Behind Dart, sit two former four-star recruits in Howard and Simmons.
Howard spent his freshman year with the LSU Tigers before transferring to Ole Miss ahead of the 2023 season. The former Tiger appeared in two games last season for the Rebels, recording just three completions on four attempts for 56 yards. Simmons was a late addition last summer after he reclassified to the 2023 class and flipped from the Florida Gators. Simmons is on the Ole Miss baseball roster this spring as a left-handed pitcher and saw one appearance in the team’s opening weekend.
