The Penn State football team lost its leading wide receiver from 2023 to the transfer portal last Monday. Now, a little over a week later KeAndre Lambert-Smith has made his decision to commit to the Auburn Tigers to play in the SEC. The battle for the former Nittany Lion comes to a close and the No. 1 wide receiver in the transfer portal is off the board.

Ex-Penn State football WR commits to SEC program

It all started during the Blue-White Game when wide receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith was not in attendance for the annual scrimmage. Then, on Monday, April 15th Lambert-Smith officially entered the transfer portal. He gained interest almost immediately from schools including Auburn, Texas A&M, Georgia, Colorado, West Virginia, and USC, among others.

At one point, Pete Nakos of On3 considered West Virginia as “confident” that they could land Lambert-Smith. However, that all changed after Lambert-Smith took visits to Auburn and Texas A&M over the past weekend. On Wednesday evening Hayes Fawcett of On3 reported that Lambert-Smith has made his commitment to the Auburn Tigers. He was considered the No. 1 wide receiver in the transfer portal.

Auburn’s impressive transfer portal class

While the Penn State football team has not made any major additions in the transfer portal Auburn has taken the opposite approach. In the spring transfer portal cycle alone they have landed former Indiana DL Philip Blidi, ex-USC DL Isaiah Raikes, former Arkansas State edge Keyron Crawford, and now KeAndre Lambert-Smith.

Penn State took care of Auburn on the field over the past several seasons. The Nittany Lions defeated the Tigers 28-20 in 2021 and 41-12 in 2022. While Auburn has struggled over the past few seasons, it appears that they have started to take a step in the right direction.
