Report: Michigan to lose top offensive star for remainder of season

If the Michigan Wolverines are going to win the National Championship it looks as if they will have to do so without the services of star running back Blake Corum.

According to a report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Corum is expected to undergo knee surgery that will end his 2022 season.

That means he will not only not be available for Saturday's Big Ten Championship game against Purdue, but he will also miss the Wolverines' postseason games, including the college football playoff if Michigan qualifies (which it should with a win on Saturday).

Corum attempted to play this past Saturday against Ohio State but exited the game after two carries.

He finished the 2022 season as one of the top running backs in the nation, gaining 1,463 yards on the ground. He still has two years of NCAA eligibility remaining, but is also eligible for the NFL draft after this season.

In his absence the Wolverines will lean on backup Donovan Edwards.

Edwards actually averaged nearly two full yards more per carry than Corum this season, and had a breakout game against Ohio State when he ran for 216 yards and two late touchdowns.

He had three 100-yard games this season, including an 173-yard performance (on only 16 carries) against Penn State.

The Wolverines enter Saturday's Big Ten Championship game with a perfect 11-0 record this season and are looking to clinch their second straight conference title and second straight college playoff appearance.
