Report: Oct. 10 start for Big Ten football 'ain't happening'

It looks less likely Big Ten football fans will see member schools in action before Halloween.

On Thursday afternoon, CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd tweeted that the Big Ten currently is not close to reversing its decision to postpone football and other fall sports due to concerns related to the coronavirus pandemic. University presidents and chancellors aren't scheduled to discuss the matter imminently.

On Tuesday, Nebraska athletic director Bill Moos told the Lincoln Journal Star that there was "nothing to" a rumor mentioned by Peacock's Dan Patrick about an Oct. 10 start date for Big Ten football.

Earlier in the day, Parth Upadhyaya of the Centre Daily Times reported that Penn State Director of Athletic Medicine Wayne Sebastianelli said during a Monday State College Area school board of directors meeting that 30%-35% of conference student-athletes who tested positive for the coronavirus also had myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle that can cause sudden cardiac arrest.

That story followed The Athletic's posting of information from a study conducted by Ohio State Director of Sports Cardiology Dr. Curt Daniels. Dr. Daniels discovered that 15% of college athletes who tested positive for COVID-19 contracted myocarditis.

The Big Ten and Pac-12 both canceled fall calendars for football and other sports on Aug. 11 after learning about that study's preliminary findings.

On Aug. 19, Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren stated in a public letter that the conference's decision to postpone fall seasons "will not be revisited."
