Oregon head coach Dan Lanning continues to build out his coaching staff with spring football practice slated to start next week in Eugene.
It looks like Matt Lombardi is the next hire lined up for the Ducks, according to a report from Matt Zenitz of 247Sports.
Lombardi spent the 2023 season with the Las Vegas Raiders, where he served as the assistant wide receivers coach, working with players like Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers. He coached with his brother Mick Lombardi, who was the offensive coordinator under head coach Josh McDaniels, who was fired on Halloween.
Matt Lombardi has a wealth of experience at both the college and NFL levels, which make him an invaluable hire for Dan Lanning in Eugene.
In addition to working with the Raiders, he also served on now Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule's Carolina Panthers staff as the assistant quarterbacks coach as well as a quality control coach on the Miami Dolphins in 2019.
Lombardi has a unique connection to Oregon, as he was on the same Louisville staff as current offensive coordinator Will Stein in 2014.
Stein played quarterback for the Cardinals during his college football days before entering the coaching ranks. Lombardi's college experience also includes a stint with the Baylor Bears.
Oregon is scheduled to begin spring practice in Eugene next week on Thursday March 14 after holding the program's annual Pro Day on Tuesday March 12.
The Ducks are being billed as one of the top teams in college football for 2024 ahead of their move to the Big Ten conference after adding exciting players like Dillon Gabriel and Evan Stewart from the transfer portal, as well as highly-touted recruits like wide receivers Jeremiah McClellan and Ryan Pellum from the high school ranks.
