It looks like Penn State football has completed its 2025 schedule.

Per a report by college football insider Brett McMurphy of the Action Network since confirmed by Jon Sauber of the Centre Daily Times, PSU has added a home game with Florida International for the 2025 season scheduled for Sept. 6, which is likely to be the second week of the regular season for Penn State.

This would be the first time these two schools have played since 2007.

Penn State, led by the legendary Joe Paterno, took on FIU, led by a then-unknown head coach named Mario Cristobal, to open the season. PSU handily won, 59-0. Cristobal has since risen to prominence in college coaching, leading Oregon from 2018-21 and taking over at his alma mater Miami before the 2022 season, where he’s been since.

PSU’s 2025 non conference schedule consists of three games, all at home. Penn State’s other two opponents are Nevada and Villanova. PSU and Nevada have never played. Penn State has played Villanova seven times with the most recent being a 38-17 win in 2021. Believe it or not, Villanova does have a win over Penn State, with Villanova getting a 27-6 win in 1949, which would be Penn State’s last season without Paterno until 2012.

Penn State and Villanova first met in 1902, with PSU getting a 32-0 win. Penn State also won the matchups in 1905, 1911 and 1912. In 1911, the teams tied, 0-0, in a game that likely would have hit the “under” if people were placing bets on the total points that day.

So PSU’s 2025 schedule will look like this.

Big Ten: Iowa, Michigan State, Ohio State, Rutgers, UCLA (away), Indiana, Nebraska, Northwestern, Oregon (home)

OOC: Florida International, Nevada, Villanova (home)

The 2024 Penn State football season season opens Aug. 31 at West Virginia.
