Being a college football coach is a lot different than it was when five years ago. NIL is a major factor in college sports today and we will see why over the next couple of weeks with college football players transferring.

The spring transfer portal window will run for two weeks from April 16 to April 30 and there will be a ton of players on the move following spring camp.

For Ohio State, head coach Ryan Day is not all that worried about what will happen for the Buckeyes over the next couple of weeks.

“They see the opportunity this season so I don’t see a bunch of guys that are just looking to run out the door,” Day said. “I think there’ll be a couple of different situations that maybe it doesn’t make sense for guys that may be looking at other places, but we’ll adapt as those happen. We know we’re going to have to play with a lot of depth next year when you’re playing 16 or 17 games more than ever before guys are going to play football.”

With the new College Football Playoff format, we’re going to see more players needing to step in and play due to more games being played. With more games being played, there is the possibility that more injuries will happen. Teams may need to dig deeper on their depth charts and play someone who wasn’t normally set to play.

Ohio State is an early hot pick to win the national championship next January. The Buckeyes returned a ton that could have gone to the draft and they returned with goals of beating Michigan and winning it all.

"I feel like we have a team that’s come together for a common purpose," Day said. "We talk about why do you play so hard here at Ohio State, it’s because of the brotherhood, the love of your teammates. I think we have a good group that way. I think guys want to be here."

Ohio State will see a few transfers that inevitably happen. Day sounds a lot like a guy who is not expecting any major changes. That bodes well for Ohio State’s 2024 season.
