SEC tells Georgia and Tennessee to 'postpone' respective series with Oklahoma

The Oklahoma Sooners are heading to the SEC soon, alongside the Texas Longhorns. And apparently, too much of a good thing isn't really a good thing. That is, at least according to the powers that be in the SEC.

Oklahoma had scheduled what appeared to be non-conference games with both Georgia and Tennessee, but the second game in each series is now scheduled to take place after the Sooners are expected to join the SEC in 2025.

That would have eventually led to scheduling conflicts. Technically, the conference stated that "the transition of Oklahoma into the SEC will not allow for the involved institutions to fulfill their respective contractual non-conference home-and-home appearance obligations", so they've decided to nix the respective series altogether.

That means Georgia's game at Oklahoma scheduled for Saturday, September 9th, 2023 is now canceled. Instead, the Bulldogs will play host to Ball State -- which is an incredible downgrade (especially for fans) both in terms of competition and entertainment value.

Tennessee will also have to find an opponent in 2024 to take place of the Sooners, who the Vols expected to host.

The SEC has decided that the Sooners will stay off the schedule for both Tennessee and Georiga 'until such time that those matchups become part of the Conference rotation of games in future years."
