Seventh-year senior quarterback transfer commits to third program

Quarterback Tyler Shough does not seem to have any interest in giving up on college football or leaving school to get on with his life's work.

According to a report from ESPN's Pete Thamel on Tuesday night, Shough is transferring to Louisville where he will be a seventh-year senior and 25 years old during the season.

Shough began his college career in 2018 at Oregon and spent two years there before transferring to Texas Tech at the start of the 2021 season. He has appeared in 27 games during his college career, throwing for 4,625 yards, 36 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.

Seventh-year seniors are becoming more and more common recently as players have taken advantage of extra years of eligibility due to the COVID season and injuries. Shough figures to be a top contender for Louisville's starting quarterback next season.

The Cardinals started Jack Plummer during the 2023 season after he transferred from California. He led the team to a 10-2 regular season record and a spot in the ACC Championship Game, where it lost to Florida State.

Louisville peaked at No. 9 in the rankings this season and is No. 16 going into the bowl season.
