Shedeur Sanders plans to take Colorado's offense to next level

Shedeur Sanders was a revelation for Colorado.

Deion Sanders' first year as head coach in the Power Five didn't ultimately live up to the hype, but that's not to say his quarterback (and son) didn't turn heads.

Shedeur threw for 3,230 yards and 27 touchdowns with just three interceptions in 2023.

There's reason to believe that Sanders will be even more impactful in his junior season. In fact, some are already projecting him as one of the top quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Sure, Sanders will have another offseason of experience under his belt as a signal-caller, but recently speaking to the media, he also expressed massive confidence in offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur and his scheme.

“I feel like the offense is very quarterback-friendly,” Sanders said (h/t On3). “I feel like it’s how I see the game, how I feel out there. If it’s a concept that I don’t like, that I want to adjust, then we can talk about it, or he could say, ‘Okay, I like it, this is the reason why.’ So it’s always a reason why, and I feel like I told him, even this morning, we got up here at like 6:30 a.m. and we just had a meeting, just talking about, I told him my biggest goal this year is not to keep us in like, bad plays."

Shurmur, a former NFL head coach and offensive coordinator, was hired as an offensive analyst by "Coach Prime" in the summer of 2023 and was promoted co-offensive coordinator eight games into the season. With last year's co-coordinator, Sean Lewis, now head coach at San Diego State, the offense is Shurmur's to call.

But make no mistake, it's Shedeur's to run.

"It’s really just trying to take my game, and make the team, just take it to the next level, to where we’re always just going to be one step ahead," he explained.
